How to set up your Ledger hardware wallet

Setting up a Ledger hardware wallet is a crucial step in ensuring the security of your cryptocurrencies. Ledger offers various models like the Ledger Nano S, Ledger Nano X, and Ledger Nano Blue, each with its own setup process. In this guide, we'll focus on setting up the Ledger Nano S, one of the most popular hardware wallets on the market.

Step 1: Unboxing

Upon receiving your Ledger Nano S, carefully unbox it and ensure all the components are present. You should find the following:

  1. Ledger Nano S device

  2. USB cable

  3. Recovery sheet

  4. Accessories such as keychain and lanyard (optional)

Step 2: Connecting to a Computer

  1. Connect your Ledger Nano S to your computer using the USB cable provided.

  2. The device will power on automatically. You'll see a welcome screen prompting you to configure as a new device or restore from a recovery phrase.

Step 3: Setting Up as a New Device

  1. Press the right button on the Ledger Nano S to select "Configure as new device" and press both buttons simultaneously to confirm.

  2. Set a 4 to 8 digit PIN code using the device buttons. This PIN will be required every time you access your Ledger Nano S.

  3. Confirm the PIN code.

  3. Once confirmed, your Ledger Nano S is set up and ready to use.

Step 5: Installing Ledger Live

  1. Visit the Ledger website and download Ledger Live, their official software for managing your Ledger device and cryptocurrencies.

  2. Install Ledger Live on your computer and open the application.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Ledger Live and add your Ledger Nano S device to the application.
